Julia is a professional singer, actor and voice actor, who has been teaching others how to use their voices for over 20 years.
Originally from the UK she was a traditional folk singer before adding jazz and then experimental improvisational performance to her repertoire in her role as a composer for dance and theater.
She has been teaching singing to individuals and groups since she was 18, studied jazz musicianship and trained in Voice Movement Therapy (VMT is a holistic approach to using the voice for professional singers and novices alike). She was a teaching artist for the San Francisco Opera Guild for 5 years helping 5th graders write their own operas from scratch and in the summer conservatory with teens. She has music directed all over the Bay Area and performed with local theater companies.
Julia is also a conference presenter:
- International Expressive Arts Therapy Conference in San Francisco 2008
- Hidden Treasures – Expressive Arts in Newport Beach 2008
- International Association for Voice Movement Therapy in Martha’s Vineyard 2006, Vermont 2015, Colorado 2017
She lives in the San Francisco Bay Area with her husband, son and noisy terrier. When she’s not behind the mic or teaching others how to use their voices, you will likely find her making up funny songs, using inappropriate language and laughing her head off.
